What happensPermalink
Micah condemns Israel’s rulers, who should know justice but instead prey upon the people like cannibals. When judgment comes, God will not answer their cries. False prophets proclaim peace for those who feed them and hostility toward those who do not, so God will leave them in darkness without revelation. In contrast, Micah is filled with the Spirit, justice, and might to declare Israel’s sin. Rulers, priests, and prophets all serve for profit while presuming God will protect them. Because of them, Jerusalem will become a heap of ruins.
Why it mattersPermalink
Israel’s institutions have inverted their purpose: rulers corrupt justice, priests teach for profit, and prophets sell reassuring messages. Their confidence that God’s presence guarantees safety cannot substitute for covenant faithfulness. Their judgments fit their sins: those who ignore cries for justice will themselves go unanswered, while prophets who corrupt God’s word will receive no word from Him.
Key versePermalink
Therefore because of you Zion shall be plowed as a field; Jerusalem shall become a heap of ruins, and the mountain of the house a wooded height.
