What happensPermalink

Micah foresees Zion restored and exalted. Nations will stream to the Lord’s mountain to learn His ways, and God will replace warfare with peace. He will gather the lame and exiled as a remnant, reign over them from Zion, and restore Jerusalem’s former dominion. Though Judah must go into exile in Babylon, God will redeem His people there. Hostile nations will also gather against Zion, unaware that God has gathered them for judgment; He will strengthen His people to overcome them.

Why it mattersPermalink

Chapter 3 ended with the temple mountain reduced to a wooded height; chapter 4 opens with that same mountain exalted above all others. God transforms condemned Zion into the center of His reign, teaching, and peace. Micah moves between promised glory and coming humiliation. Exile and hostile armies cannot overturn God’s purpose to restore His people.

Key versePermalink

It shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of the house of the Lord shall be established as the highest of the mountains, and it shall be lifted up above the hills; and peoples shall flow to it.
