What happensPermalink

Micah declares woe against the powerful who devise evil, seize fields and houses, and oppress families because they have the power to do so. God answers their injustice with judgment: those who steal others’ inheritance will lose their own. The people try to silence prophets who announce judgment, preferring preaching that promises wine and indulgence. Yet God promises to gather the remnant of Israel like sheep in a fold and lead them out with their king, the Lord, at their head.

Why it mattersPermalink

Micah moves from broad judgment to the injustice producing it. Israel’s powerful exploit the vulnerable and reject God’s word as unwelcome. Their punishment fits their sin: those who seize inheritance lose inheritance, and those who corrupt the land must leave it. Yet judgment will not have the final word. God will gather the scattered remnant, shepherd them, and lead them as king.

Key versePermalink

I will surely assemble all of you, O Jacob; I will gather the remnant of Israel; I will set them together like sheep in a fold, like a flock in its pasture, a noisy multitude of men.
