God’s hand can save and His ear can hear, but Israel’s sins separate them from Him. Violence, lies, injustice, and oppression fill society until truth stumbles in the streets. The people confess that they grope like the blind and cannot find deliverance. Seeing that no one intervenes, God puts on righteousness and salvation like armor, repays His enemies, and displays His glory throughout the world. A Redeemer comes to Zion, and God establishes an enduring covenant of His Spirit and word with His people.
Why it mattersPermalink
Israel’s sin has destroyed justice, so God comes as warrior and Redeemer to save, judge, and establish His covenant. Humanity cannot repair the corruption it created: truth has fallen, and no intercessor appears. Paul echoes God’s armor in Ephesians 6:14, 17 and quotes the Redeemer promise in Romans 11:26–27, connecting Christ’s removal of sin with God’s enduring gift of Spirit and word.
