What happensPermalink

Zechariah sees four chariots emerging between two bronze mountains. The angel identifies them as heavenly agents who patrol the earth; those sent north bring God’s Spirit to rest there. God instructs Zechariah to crown Joshua the high priest with silver and gold from returning exiles. The crowning points toward the coming Branch, who will build the Lord’s temple, bear royal honor, and rule in peace with the priesthood. The crown will remain in the temple as a memorial, and people from far away will help build the temple.

Why it mattersPermalink

The visions began with the nations at rest while Jerusalem suffered (1:11–15). Now God’s Spirit is at rest: His judgment answers Jerusalem’s suffering. Joshua’s symbolic coronation points beyond the present restoration to the Branch, linking the promised Davidic ruler with the temple and a restored priesthood. God will accomplish this restoration, while His people remain responsible to obey Him.
