Laws for burnt offerings. They may be cattle, sheep, goats, or birds. The entire offering is burnt, leaving none to eat. The offeror lays their hands on the animal; the priests slaughter it, throw its blood on the altar, and carve and burn the carcass.
Why it mattersPermalink
Burnt offerings are costly, since none of the meat is left over to eat. The burnt offering is one of the atoning offerings, either to atone for sin or to appease God’s wrath. (The other atoning offerings are the sin offering and the guilt offering.)
