Babylon’s gods, Bel and Nebo, stoop helplessly and must be loaded onto animals as burdens carried into captivity. In contrast, God has carried Israel from the womb and will sustain them into old age. Idols made from gold and silver cannot move, answer, or rescue. The incomparable Lord declares the future and accomplishes His purposes, including summoning Cyrus from the east. Though His people are stubborn and far from righteousness, He brings His salvation near without delay.

Babylon’s gods must be carried, but the Lord carries His people and unfailingly brings His promised salvation near. He created Israel and sustains them from birth through old age despite their stubbornness. By announcing Cyrus and accomplishing His purpose, God proves that no idol can rival His control of history. His sovereignty serves redemption: He will place salvation in Zion for His glory.
