Isaiah prophesies that when God comes to save His people, the dry wilderness will bloom and display His glory. The weak and fearful should therefore take courage. The blind will see, the deaf hear, the lame leap, and the mute sing as waters transform the desert. A safe and unmistakable Highway of Holiness will carry the redeemed to Zion, where everlasting joy replaces sorrow and sighing.
Why it mattersPermalink
God’s saving arrival reverses judgment by healing people, renewing creation, and leading the redeemed home to Zion with everlasting joy. Chapter 35 answers the wasteland of chapter 34 and the ruined landscapes of 33:9. Its Highway of Holiness becomes a final exodus with every barrier removed. Jesus cites the promised healings as evidence that God’s kingdom is arriving through Him (Matthew 11:4–5; Luke 7:22).
