God destroys Leviathan, the monster representing hostile powers and evil. He sings over His restored vineyard, guarding it continually until Israel fills the world with fruit. God has disciplined His people to remove their guilt and idols, while the fortified city opposing Him becomes deserted. Finally, He gathers His scattered people one by one; a great trumpet calls the exiles from Assyria and Egypt to worship the Lord in Jerusalem.
Why it mattersPermalink
God defeats the powers of chaos, purifies His vineyard, and gathers His scattered people to worship in Zion. Unlike the failed vineyard of chapter 5, restored Israel flourishes under God’s continual care and fills the world with fruit. His discipline removes guilt rather than annihilating His people. Jesus echoes the trumpet and worldwide gathering when He promises to gather His elect (Matthew 24:31).
