Isaiah praises God for carrying out His ancient plans, overthrowing fortified cities, and becoming a stronghold and shelter for the poor. On Mount Zion, God prepares a magnificent feast for all peoples, removes the covering spread over every nation, swallows up death forever, and wipes away every tear. The redeemed rejoice in the God they trusted, while proud Moab struggles in vain before being trampled and brought low.
Why it mattersPermalink
God will overthrow oppressive cities, shelter the poor, gather all peoples to His feast, and swallow up death forever. His salvation replaces violence, misery, and mourning with refuge, abundance, life, and joy. Paul quotes verse 8 when celebrating resurrection victory (1 Corinthians 15:54), and Revelation 21:4 echoes God wiping away every tear. Proud Moab represents resistance that no human skill can rescue.
