God empties and devastates the earth, bringing judgment upon every class of people because humanity has defiled it and broken His laws. Cities fall silent, celebration ends, and the earth reels beneath its guilt. Yet a scattered remnant praises the righteous Lord from the ends of the earth. God will imprison and punish rebellious powers in heaven and rulers on earth, then reign gloriously from Mount Zion, outshining the sun and moon.
Why it mattersPermalink
Isaiah expands judgment from individual nations to the whole corrupted earth, while preserving a worldwide remnant for God’s glorious reign. The imagery echoes Noah’s flood: the heavens open, the earth shakes, and human guilt disorders creation itself. God will also punish the powers of heaven and rulers of earth, then reign from Zion with a glory that outshines sun and moon.
