From the seemingly dead stump of Jesse, a Spirit-filled king will arise with wisdom, understanding, counsel, might, knowledge, and fear of the Lord. He will judge beyond appearances, defend the poor, destroy the wicked, and fill creation with peace through the knowledge of God. The Root of Jesse will become a banner sought by the nations. God will gather His scattered remnant, reunite Judah and Ephraim, defeat their enemies, and remove every barrier to their return.
Why it mattersPermalink
The Spirit-filled heir of David will judge righteously, renew creation, gather Israel’s remnant, and draw the nations to Himself. Jesus is this promised Messiah, arising from a dynasty that appeared dead; Romans 15:12 quotes verse 10 as the ground of Gentile hope. His reign becomes a second and greater exodus in which no enemy, division, or barrier can keep God’s people from home.
