Foolish words multiply without knowledge and eventually consume the speaker. A nation suffers when immature rulers pursue indulgence and neglect their responsibilities. Even private curses may become known.

Folly can ruin reputation, labor, leadership, and communities. Wisdom therefore requires self-control, preparation, skill, and restraint in speech. It cannot make life under the sun safe or predictable, but it helps people navigate its dangers. This matters especially for rulers, whose laziness and self-indulgence spread harm throughout the land. Seemingly small acts of foolishness can produce far-reaching consequences.
