At VerseNotes, I want readers to find delight in God’s Word—whether they’re reading Scripture for the first time or the thousandth. My faith shapes everything I write here, but I’ve hesitated to post a formal statement of faith because I believe, as Paul told Timothy and Titus, that our calling is not to quarrel about words or divide the body of Christ, but to live out the truth in love:

Nor to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies, which promote speculations rather than the stewardship from God that is by faith.

—1 Timothy 1:4

Don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels. And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful.

—2 Timothy 2:23–24 🔍

Avoid foolish controversies, genealogies, dissensions, and quarrels about the law, for they are unprofitable and worthless.

—Titus 3:9

Still, faith deserves clarity. So here’s where I stand.

Core Confession

I affirm the earliest Christian confession:

“Jesus is Lord.”

That simple statement has united believers since the first century and remains the foundation of every word I write.

I also affirm the historic Apostles’ Creed, which expresses the shared faith of the global church across centuries and denominations:

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth;

and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord;
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried;
he descended to the dead;
the third day he rose again from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from there he shall come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting.

Faith Tradition

I was raised and remain in the Wesleyan tradition, which emphasizes:

  • A high view of Scripture as the inspired Word of God.
  • The use of tradition, reason, and experience as lenses to interpret Scripture faithfully.
  • The conviction that God’s grace is active everywhere, drawing people toward holiness and love.

That heritage shapes my writing and teaching, but VerseNotes isn’t a denominational project. My hope is to help all believers—whatever their background—discover joy, understanding, and delight in God’s Word.

Why No Doctrinal Fences

The Church has enough walls. VerseNotes exists to build bridges: between readers and Scripture, between knowledge and wonder, between belief and daily life.

May everything written here point us back to the same truth: God’s Word is living and active, revealing His love and inviting our delight in Him.
