What happensPermalink
On the Day of the Lord, nations will devastate Jerusalem. Then the Lord will come as a warrior, splitting the Mount of Olives and providing escape. Light will shine, living waters will flow continually from Jerusalem, and the Lord will reign over all the earth. God will plague the attacking armies and turn them against one another. Survivors from the nations will come to worship the Lord and celebrate the Feast of Booths. Jerusalem will dwell securely, and everything in it, from horses’ bells to ordinary cooking pots, will be holy to the Lord.
Why it mattersPermalink
Zechariah ends with the complete transformation toward which the book has pointed: God defeats evil, saves Jerusalem, reigns universally, and draws even survivors from the nations to worship Him. His presence brings life, security, and pervasive holiness. What began with the restoration of a ruined temple ends with the whole community made sacred to the Lord.
Key versePermalink
And the Lord will be king over all the earth. On that day the Lord will be one and his name one.
