Her body is compared to jewels, a wine-filled bowl, wheat, gazelles, towers, pools, a palm tree, and fruit; even a king is held captive by her tresses. She responds by delighting in her beloved’s desire and inviting him into the countryside, where vineyards and pomegranates bloom and she has stored choice fruits for him.

The erotic praise is candid, sustained, and reciprocal. The woman participates fully: secure in mutual belonging, she answers desire with desire and freely offers her love. The rare phrase “his desire is for me” may echo Genesis 3:16; here desire rests within mutual delight and shared belonging. Love remains exclusive while continuing to discover “new as well as old” joys.
