What happensPermalink
Paul urges the Philippians to live out their faith with unity and humility, setting aside self-interest for the good of others. The supreme pattern is Jesus Christ: though truly God, He did not cling to divine privilege but took on human form and humbled Himself to death on a cross. Therefore God exalted Him above every name, so that every knee should bow and every tongue confess Him as Lord. Believers, following this example, are to work out their salvation as God works in them, shining like stars in a dark world.
Why it mattersPermalink
True Christian unity and joy spring from humility patterned on Christ’s self-emptying and empowered by God’s indwelling work.
Key versePermalink
Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.
