What happensPermalink
Jesus is brought before Pilate, then Herod, then Pilate again. Pilate condemns Jesus to crucifixion at the will of the crowd, alongside two criminals. Jesus dies, and they bury Him in the tomb of Joseph of Arimathea.
Why it mattersPermalink
Pilate and Herod find Jesus innocent of any Roman law, but they fear the crowds, so they kill Him anyway. Jesus loves His enemies even to His death, praying that God will forgive them.
Key versePermalink
Then Jesus, calling out with a loud voice, said, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!” And having said this he breathed his last.
