What happensPermalink

After Judah’s men fall in judgment, seven women seek one husband to remove their disgrace. Yet the Branch of the Lord and the fruit of the land will become beautiful and glorious for the surviving remnant. Once God cleanses Zion through judgment, its survivors will be called holy. He will cover Mount Zion with cloud and fire and provide shelter from every danger.

Why it mattersPermalink

After judgment cleanses Zion, God will preserve a holy remnant beneath His glorious presence and protection. “The Branch of the Lord” may portray the land’s renewed fruitfulness; within Isaiah’s wider branch imagery, Christians may also see a further messianic horizon fulfilled in Christ. The cloud and fire recall the exodus, and the canopy may evoke both divine shelter and restored marriage.

Key versePermalink

In that day the branch of the Lord shall be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the land shall be the pride and honor of the survivors of Israel.

Isaiah 4:2
