God condemns Judah for seeking Egypt’s protection without consulting Him. The people reject His prophets and demand reassuring lies, but Egypt will fail them and Judah’s rebellion will shatter suddenly. God offered salvation through repentance, rest, quietness, and trust, yet they refused. Still, He waits to be gracious: He will teach His people, turn them from idols, heal them, and bless their land. Finally, the LORD will strike Assyria with His voice and breath; Topheth stands ready for Assyria’s king.
Why it mattersPermalink
Judah’s alliance with Egypt and rejection of God’s word bring ruin, yet the gracious Lord offers guidance, healing, and victory. The strength Judah seeks through purchased protection was already available through repentance, rest, quietness, and trust. God waits to show mercy to those who return, while Assyria’s king faces judgment at Topheth. Pleasant lies cannot replace the word of the Holy One.
