Isaiah begins with Judah’s hope: in the latter days, the mountain of the Lord’s house—Jerusalem—will become the center of worship and instruction. The nations will learn His ways, and His judgment will turn warfare into peace. Present-day Judah, however, has abandoned God for foreign practices, wealth, military power, and idols. On the day of the Lord, God will humble everything proud; mankind will discard its idols and flee His terrifying presence.
Why it mattersPermalink
Isaiah contrasts Zion’s promised future of worldwide worship and peace with Judah’s present idolatry and the coming humiliation of all human pride. The day of the Lord will overthrow every false source of security so that He alone is exalted. Judah must therefore stop trusting human beings and walk now in the light of the future God has promised.
