Isaiah pronounces an oracle against Damascus and northern Israel, allies against Judah. Damascus will become ruins, Israel’s glory will waste away, and only a few survivors will remain. In judgment, that remnant will look to its Maker and abandon idols. Because Israel forgot the God of salvation, its carefully cultivated harvest will vanish. The roaring nations may seem overwhelming, but God will rebuke and scatter them like chaff; by morning, those who plunder His people will be gone.
