The author urges believers to enter God’s rest while the invitation still stands. The rest that Israel missed and Joshua only foreshadowed is the very rest God enjoyed after creation, now open to all who trust and obey. God’s Word searches every heart, exposing unbelief and stripping away pretense. Yet the one who sees all also sympathizes with all. Jesus, our great High Priest who has ascended to Heaven, shared our weakness without sin and intercedes for us now.

The author continues to use Psalm 95 as a lens on the people of Moses and then of Joshua to contrast their unbelief with faith in Christ. God’s promise of rest is not past but present and eternal.
