God rests from His creative work. He forms a man from dust and places him in a garden He plants in Eden. He commands the man to avoid the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, and He makes a companion, a woman, from the man’s rib.

God’s rest examples our rest and makes the Sabbath holy. The river flowing from the garden will be seen again in prophecies and in the second garden in Revelation. The woman is made from man, so in marriage the woman is joined back to the man in one flesh.
