What happensPermalink
Michael arises during unparalleled trouble, and God’s people whose names are in the book are delivered. Many of the dead awaken, some to everlasting life and others to everlasting contempt; the wise shine like stars. Daniel is told to seal the book until the end. He hears periods of waiting, including 1,290 and 1,335 days, and receives a promise of rest and an inheritance at the end.
Why it mattersPermalink
The wise who suffered in chapter 11 now shine forever. Resurrection extends the book’s hope beyond rescue from fire and lions: faithfulness may lead through death to everlasting life. The numbered periods place suffering within God’s appointed limits, even while their relationship remains unclear. Daniel’s promise makes this hope personal. He can live faithfully with unanswered questions, trusting God to raise him.
Key versePermalink
But go your way till the end. And you shall rest and shall stand in your allotted place at the end of the days.
