Paul explains he postponed his visit to spare the Corinthians further pain, sending a letter instead. The man who led the opposition has now been disciplined enough, so Paul urges the church to forgive and restore him, lest Satan exploit their division. Christ leads Paul, like a captive in a triumphal procession, spreading everywhere the fragrance of the gospel. The burden of bearing such a message leaves Paul crying, “Who is sufficient for these things?” Only God makes such work possible.
